It has been an exciting and eventful few weeks for the youth lately! Thanks to an incredibly generous donation from a Tyner family, we have been making plans to completely update the youth center! The youth and I have had a blast deciding what we would like our new room to look like--we can’t wait to get started. In case you haven’t seen the youth room in a while, stop by and see (and smell!) the “before.” It is a room well-loved and well-used— You may recognize a couch or two; it was probably in the youth room when you were a youth here, or else you owned it and donated it to the youth years ago! Please know that we have been so grateful for donations of all kinds from the church family over the years—we would have nowhere to sit, nothing to look at, nothing to read, and no way to hear our music without your generosity! The idea of this update is to give our students a fresh new place they are proud to call their own and to help attract new youth to the church. I can’t wait for you all to see the finished product in a few weeks!
Mark your calendars for these upcoming events... October 26: Trunk or Treat—5:30-8 PM November 6: Festival of Gifts and Talents November 11-13: Fall Retreat at Horn’s Creek-- $100 or $125 if you want to play paintball! (I need a $50 deposit by October 26) January 13-15: Resurrection 2012!
Attention, youth parents and volunteers! Let’s get together and talk, vision, and dream about what YOU want this program to look like and where you may feel God leading this ministry.
It’s SO good to be home!I can’t tell you how excited I am to be joining the Tyner team as Youth Director and to be returning to the music ministry as keyboardist again! Isn’t it amazing how God works in His timing?
You may know that Tyner is my home—I grew up in this church and was a youth here during the most spiritually formative years of my life. I came to love Jesus and see how good life in Christ really is through this church; through you who invested in and loved me, my own family who modeled the love of Christ, and the incredible legacy of youth directors who sat in the same office I am writing from right now.
I can’t dismiss this as coincidence. The story of my coming home is absolutely a God-tale, full of His hand at work from the very beginning! Ask me about it sometime… I’d love to brag on Him! I usually roll my eyes when someone states the obvious—so, if you are prone to a similar reaction, prepare yourself to do so, but I just have to say….Tyner has some truly AMAZING youth. Seriously. I can’t wait to hang out with them, love on them, and get to know them even more! They’re fun, funny, smart, cool and kind and talented and athletic and creative and faithful and just WOW! You’ll soon be seeing lots more of the youth, and I intend to give them the pleasure of seeing you, too! I believe in all generations loving on each other in the body of Christ.
In Revelation 2, Jesus calls us all back to our first love: HIM. He compliments how hard we’re working, but His heart, more than anything, wants OUR hearts. What a perfect place to start--Loving on Jesus, loving on each other. God is doing a new thing, and I don’t want to take a single step without Him! Oh, yeah, and did I mention that we have a blast, too?? Because we so do. Big time! You’re all truly my family. I can’t wait to see you around church and hug your neck! I’m thrilled that we get to take this journey together and hang out in the throne room with the King. Together!
